Chawan, Tanegashima 種子島

小山先生は種子島焼について同じものが無いほど変化に富んでいると仰っておりました。焼き締められた土肌は深い色をたたえ還元がかかった窯変の具合は器に様々な表情を生みだしています。鉄分の多い粗目の土でひかれた姿が素朴さとあいまって、ゆうゆうとした印象が小山先生ならではの作陶のように思えます。

KOYAMA Fujio pointed out Tanegashima ware has so much variety that there is nothing looks same. The clay fired at high temperature has deep colored skin, and the kiln change by the reducing flame makes a various expression on pottery. The rough clay with plenty of iron and simple form have combined to give it a leisurely impression, which only KOYAMA can produce.
