Exhibition 【陶藝家の父　富本憲吉展】Exhibition of TOMIMOTO Kenkichi -The Father of Japanese Studio Pottery-

　2019年の３月から４月にかけてニューヨーク、ジョーン・B・マービスさんのギャラリーにて富本憲吉先生の展示会“Vessel Explored Vessel Transformed : Tomimoto Kenkichi and His Enduring Legacy”を共催させていただきました。
　
　日本の近現代陶芸を深く掘り下げられ、富本先生が日本の陶芸界でいかに重要な存在であったことを世界中の皆様にお伝えされたジョーン・B・マービスさんに、この場を借りて大きな感謝を改めて申し上げたいと思います。国外での初めての展示会は富本憲吉先生の作品だけでなく、門下生やその孫弟子とも言える作家たちの力作が競うように並びました。
　
　１９４８年、東京美術会館での富本憲吉展示会図録のあとがきには「敗戰後の日本文化は工藝を表看板にして世界に臨まねば成らぬと誰もが口にいたしますが、そのリーダーとして先づ第一指を富本先生に屈すべきは　異論のない處であります」と主催であった黒田領治が述べています。祖父のその想いが叶ったのはそれから７０年以上もかかってしまいましたが、誠に感無量の展示会でした。

　平成が終わり、令和が始まり富本先生をご存知ない世代の方々が増えて参りましたが、私どもの心の指針として、富本先生の存在はさらに大きくなっております。
　
　前回は７本の色絵捻徳利をテーマにさせていただきましたが、今回は先生が最も重要とした白磁作品を中心に展示させていただきます。

We have held an exhibition “Vessel Explored Vessel Transformed: Tomimoto Kenkichi and His Enduring Legacy” together with Joan B. Mirviss LTD at New York in March-April 2019.We would like to show much appreciation to Ms. Mirviss who has extended the importance of TOMIMOTO in the Japanese studio pottery history to the art lovers all over the world. The first commemorating exhibition included not only the great works of TOMIMOTO, but also of his disciples and whom followed them.
In the postscript of the exhibition catalogue at Tokyo Bijutsu Kaikan in 1948, KURODA Ryoji, the sponsor of the event, stated “Experts says post-war Japanese should face the world with our traditional works by artisans, and the first person to be one of the leaders must be Mr. TOMIMOTO. There is no objection, I believe.” It had taken seventy years to realize the hope of Ryoji, my grandfather, so this exhibition was indescribably moved my heart.
Now the Heisei era has ended and the new Reiwa has started. Though the young who do not know TOMIMOTO have been increasing, the importance of his contribution and achievement has become much larger as our guideline.
We would like to show white porcelains which TOMIMOTO regarded as the most important works, whereas seven twisted tokkuri was the theme of the last exhibition.
