【織部 小山智徳展】Exhibition of KOYAMA Tomonori

「織部を登窯で焼成」と聞いただけで、そんな不効率なことは今の時代にそわない。
そのようなことを、耳にしたことが何度かある。
織部は、轆轤や手捻りの技法に型打ちを加え、当時の文化を十分に取り入れた桃山時代のやきものの中でも、意匠性にとんだ洒落たものであったと思う。
そして奇抜な絵付や造形は、土や釉薬など素材の強さと、玄妙な表現力によって、成り立っているように感じる。
緑釉の深み、鉄絵の煮えの渋さ、素地のじわっとした質感、豊かな造形など、すべて具えた作品を生み出すのは、とても難しい。ですが、薪窯の中で生じる変化は無限であり、深遠な味わいを感じることができるように思う。
小山智徳の作品、手間のかかる型打ちの器や愛らしい細工が、長い間、楽しみ尽くすことのないものであるのは、そのようなこともあるのかもしれない。

Now in the present age, it is very traditional and inefficient way to fire Oribe works at a climbing kiln, said some.
Oribe used to especially be a fashionable design in Momoyama period that the mood of the culture has been a model of esthetic even now. Oribe had earned new technique, katauchi, in-mold-form, in addition to wheeling, hand-forming, and the extraordinary designs are supported by the durability of excellent materials, clays and glazes, and professional expressions. It is easy to imagine how Oribe ware were well planned producing, aimed the uniqueness and sole existence, which expressed in the way of taking balance in composition: the deepness of the color green, the tasteful iron paintings, the skin texture, and the superb shapes, and also easy to imagine how practically hard to achieve.
However, the never-replacable is the infinite possibilities for artwork in a Oribe climbing kiln to have kiln changes with deep tastes and various view points.
For that reason the works by KOYAMA Tomonori, which long time and process taken to create adorable handiworks, are loved long time without losing interest.
