Fresh water container, E-seto 絵瀬戸水指

口を大きく広げて立ち上がる、この水指は、魯山人先生が所有されていた古い信楽壷から型をとってお作りになられたもの。
壷の膨らみの中央から上部を切離し、水指にしたものと思われる。
底部の作りから、粘土を流し込んで成型されたことが分かるのも面白い。

魯山人先生が愛した信楽壷の自由な動きある造りを切離したことにより、左右の広がりや、口縁の揺らぎもそのままに、また、そこに生き生きとした魚が鉄絵により描かれ、静かな茶室の中に動きを感じる、魯山人先生の遊び心溢れた作品となっている。

This mizusashi (water jar), with its wide-open mouth, was created by taking a mold from an old Shigaraki jar once owned by Rosanjin. It appears that the upper half of a jar, from the middle upward, was cut off to transform it into a water jar. It is also intriguing to see that the piece was formed by pouring clay into a mold, as evidenced by the construction of the base.
By separating the upper part of the Shigaraki jar, which Rosanjin admired for its free and dynamic form, the piece retains the original lateral expansiveness and undulating rim. Additionally, the jar is adorned with lively fish painted in iron glaze, evoking a sense of movement within the tranquil atmosphere of the tearoom. This work is a wonderful expression of Master Rosanjin's playful spirit.
