Tea cup 灰被湯呑

島岡先生は益子にて古代土器の複製品制作のお手伝いを頼まれたことがきっかけとなり、独立後その縄文を作品に試されました。形というより表面に工夫を凝らした自分の焼きものを作ろうと思われていたので、縄目に象嵌技法を併用し表面の独自性を追求した作品を生み出しました。この縄文象嵌の技法で人間国宝に指定されております。こちらのお湯呑も、素地に色がのせられ象嵌された白が引き立ち、見込みを含めた全体に灰が被り様々な表情を持つ作品となっております。

SHIMAOKA Tatsuzo had become interested in rope-patterned, after being engaged in making replicas of earthenware in Mashiko. He created his own style using inlay technique with rope pattern, being rather interested in the surface design than its shape. He was appointed as a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Assets with the technique called jomon zogan style.
The inlay on this tea cup makes the white color stand out from the background color. Ash glaze falling all over makes impressive expression.
