Chawan 光碗黄釉

透光性の高い白磁を限りなく薄く挽き、穴をあけた上から透明の釉薬をかける手法を「蛍手」という。
新里先生は「光器」とか、「光碗」と表現されて作陶されている。
古くからある中国陶器に見られる手法であり、ここ日本でも蛍手を用いた作家も多くいる中、すぐに先生のそれと分かるのは、早稲田大学文学部哲学科の御出身の先生ならではの洗練された図柄故だろうか。

中でも本作品は、少し黄色い色味の付いた光沢のある透明釉を掛けた新しい見え方の作品。
碗の上半分は点が綺麗に横に並び、下半分は格子状に見えるように変化を持たせている。

今まで作られていた無色の透明釉を用いた無機質な雰囲気に淡い色味が付くことにより、薄い卵の殻に穴が開いたような“生命の息吹”さえ感じる温かみがある。

The technique that the translucent clay was thrown thin on a wheel and covered with transparent glaze is called “Hotaru-de.” The artist NIISATO akio calls his work Koki or Kowan, luminescent works.
It was found in old Chinese ceramics and even present Japanese potters follows the tradition, however, the reason why we can figure out his works from among is that because of his philosophy, established at his university age at Waseda.
This work shows a little yellowish surface with gloss glaze. He gives different patterns in above and bottom, horizontal lines and grid-like composition. This color and pattern gives the Chawan more organic feeling than ever, like new birth is expecting soon from an egg.
