Chawan, Hagi 萩茶碗

1967年に休雪の号を譲り、休和を名乗ってからは、萩の源流に当たる井戸風の茶碗に際立ったものが見いだされるようになる。
本作も萩釉が素地と相まって柔らかな琵琶色を呈している。胎土に含まれている砂礫に釉がかかる景色が竹節高台を中心にみられ、茶碗の豪放とした印象を際立たせる。まさに「ざんぐり」とした趣きある茶碗である。
高台脇に「和」の彫銘がある。

In 1967, he named himself Kyuwa and transferred his family name Miwa Kyusetsu to his younger brother. Since then, his interest went toward Ido-lilke tea bowls, which is the origin of Hagi ware. As same as other outstanding pieces, this item has beautiful loquat color of Hagi glaze. The strong highlight is around the high foot. You can see dramatic glazing on the white clay, Daido clay, which includes rich gravel and less iron. It gives us an impression of large-minded and elegant feeling. There is his inscription “和” by the base.
