色繪香爐 Incense burner
富本 憲吉/ KENKICHI TOMIMOTO
揺るぎない美しい香爐の四方全面には、走るような筆の勢いを保ちつつ、柔らかく豊かな模様が下書きなしに一気に描き上げられ美しい連続模様となる。
今作品の文様は「赤更紗文様」や「四弁花文様」とも言われ、生家から株分けし、祖師谷の玄関先に植えられていた定家葛の花をもとに作られたとされる富本先生を代表するもの。
本来、五弁の花を四弁に変えて作られた連続模様は、白く風車のような花の捻じれを表すため創意に蕊(しべ)や萼(がく)が加えられている。
白抜きの花の周囲は紅色に彩られることにより浮かび上がり、蕊や萼が青釉、黄釉で描かれ、所々に緑釉が入ることで、単調になりがちな連続模様に変化をもたらし、奥行きある表情を与える。
今にも、甘くふくよかな芳香が香ってきそうである。
藤原定家が式子内親王の死後もなお、愛する彼女を忘れられず、ついに定家葛に生まれ変わって彼女の墓にからみついたという伝説の残る定家葛の花のように、一度目にしたら愛さずにはいられない崇高で奥ゆかしい佇まいとなっている。
底部には「富」の染付銘。
火屋は金工の人間国宝、増田三男先生によるもの。

The beautiful rich pattern with lively brush strokes was painted without draft on all four surfaces of the square incense burner,
The pattern was called “Red Calico pattern” or “Four petal pattern”, the representative pattern of Mr. Tomimoto, was designed from Asian jasmine planted at the front gate of his residence in Soshigaya, Tokyo.
The five-petal flower was designed into four petal pattern and added stamens and calyxes to express the distortion of the petals like a white windmill.
White flowers are popped out by colored with red around, and stamens and calyxes are depicted with blue, yellow and green here and there, which makes eye movement and enjoyable aspects on the simple pattern. It looks as if sweet incense comes in the air at any moment.
Japanese Jasmin, as known as Teika Kazura, named after Fujiwara no Teika, Japanese poet, calligrapher, and scholar of Heian and Kamakura period, has subliminal and modest attitude that we cannot help loving. It is like in the myth of Teika Kazura that the man could never forget his wife after her death and reborn as the flower to entangle his string to the grave of his wife. T
There is a signature of “富” with cobalt at the foot.
The metal top is made by MASUDA Mitsuo, Important Intangible Cultural Property Designation (Living National Treasure)
