Vase, Sometsuke 染付高砂手花入

中国明の時代、景徳鎮窯で焼かれた砧形の青瓷花入に鯉耳がついた古染付の花入を倣った作品です。鯉も高砂も縁起の良いものとされており、当時は日本人向けに焼かれ小堀遠州が好んだとされます。
豊蔵先生の高砂手花入にも、同様に胴部に蔓唐草、口縁の内側に鋸歯文、頸部には能の謡曲『高砂』にある「尉と姥」が表と裏に描かれています。豊蔵先生は志野や瀬戸黒の作品とは別に、虎渓山に水月窯を築き、染付や赤絵の作品も数多く手がけていました。こちらの染付の筆運びにも趣きが感じられ余白がバランス良く配されています。箱の裏に虎渓山と書かれていることから、水月窯で作られたと思われ、無田陶人や斗出庵と号しており、高台には「斗」のサインがあります。

The item follows the old Sometsuke flower vase with carp shaped ears of Gyeongtoku Jin kiln in Ming dynasty in China. Takasago, a name of traditional Noh play, and carps are both auspicious motives in demand and produced for Japan, which Kobori Enshu was fond of. This typical Takasago vase by Toyozo of course has arabesque pattern on its body, zigzag pattern called Saw-tooth inside the mouth, and an old couple figure motif of Takasago Noh play in the neck. The design is well balanced with excellent void space, which gives tasteful and elegant atmosphere to the work.
He had a Suigetsu Kiln in Kokei-zan, Tajimi city that is used for making Sometsuke and Aka-e works. The item has one of his signature “斗”on the foot, and the word“虎渓山”and “無田陶人, 斗”on the box lid that indicates the item might be made in Suigetsu kiln.
