1963年 大英帝国勲章を受章
1974年 生涯最後の来日 国際交流基金賞を受賞

1887 Born in Hong Kong, then spent three years in Japan in his early ages.
1907 Attended the London School of Art, where he studied etching under Frank Brangwyn.
1909 Returned to Japan, becominging interested in the culture.
1911 He attended a Raku-yaki pottery party which was his first introduction to ceramics, and he began to study under Urano Shigekichi 浦野繁吉 (1851–1923), who stood as Kenzan 6th in the tradition of potter Ogata Kenzan (1663 -1743).
1914 Held his first exhibition.
1920 Established as a potter after successful experiences, he decided to move back to England.
1934 After travelling around Europe and Asia, he came back again to Japan.
1952 Organizing the International Conference of Potters and Weavers in July 1952 at Dartington Hall,
1953 Came to Japan.
1974 Camo to Japan for the last time in his life. Received Japan Foundation Cultural Award.
