1893年 東京・日本橋本町生まれ1918年 東京美術学校金工科卒
1923年 東京美術学校西洋画家卒
橘ガラス工場長・今村繁三と知己を得て、ガラス製法を学ぶ
1927年 東洋時計社より時計のデザインを依頼される。(-37年)
岩城ガラス研究室に通い、ガラス研究を進める
1931年 岩田硝子製作所設立
1941年 東京府芸術保存審議会委員
東京工芸総合展美術工芸部展審査員
1943年 芸術保存資格者甲種一級に認定
1951年 日本芸術院賞受賞
1957年 日展審査主任
1958年 日展顧問(以後出品せず)
1962年 日本伝統工芸展授章選考委員
1966年 日本工芸会常任理事
1969年 毎日芸術賞受賞
1970年 文化功労者
1972年 日本ガラス工芸協会設立、名誉会員
1980年 逝去、勲二等端宝章
1918 Graduated from Tokyo Fine Arts School (present-day Tokyo University of the Arts), majored in Metal Work.
1923 B.A in Western Painting at Tokyo Fine Art School
Studied Glass Work from Shigezo Imamura, the president of Tachibana Glass Factory.
1927-37 Designed the watch brand for Toyo Tokei company.
1931 Established IWATA Glass Art
1941 Became a Tokyo Cultural Property Council Members
Became a Tokyo Craft Comprehensive Exhibition and Art and Craft Exhibition Council Members
1951 Received the Japan Art Academy Prize
1957 Became a judge at Nitten
1958 Became a adviser of Nitten.
1962 Selected as a judge of Japan Traditional kogei Awards
1966 Became a Excecutive Director of Japan Traditional kogei foundation
