Exhibition 【ミヤケマイ 『神在』】　Exhibition of Mai Miyake

ミヤケマイは日本文化に造詣が深い。もともと凝り性だし、自分の手を使うのが好きだから、美濃焼の窯元に通って自分で作っている。焼き物は楽ではないから、職人さんにいろいろ見ていただいていての制作だ。といってもミヤケマイの想像力は学んで終わり、では済まないから、徹底的に追及する。ギリギリの世界である。その先に窮屈さを超えた諧謔精神に富んだ世界が展開する。

Mai Miyake has a profound knowledge on Japanese traditional culture. She likes things to be perfect, and likes to use her hands. So she goes to a kiln in Mino to create art pieces, guided by professional artisans there. It is not easy for her as a contemporary artist to produce pottery works. Although, she does not end her study after just one process of making, so she persuades until she satisfies enough. She stands at an edge of the world. From there, she can look out beyond the border, where the world is full of freedom and humor.
