Exhibition 【池田晃将展】Exihibition of IKEDA Terumasa

池田晃将は1987年千葉県出身。2016年　金沢美術工芸大学大学院 修士課程を修了後、2019年金沢卯辰山工芸工房を修了。
現在、金沢において制作を行う。2021年「《十二の鷹》と明治の工芸―万博出品時代から今日まで変わりゆく姿」(国立工芸館)、2022年「ジャンルレス工芸展」(国立工芸館)、2023年「超絶技巧、未来へ! 明治工芸とそのDNA」(岐阜県現代陶芸美術館　他)、2023年「ポケモン×工芸展―美とわざの大発見―」(国立工芸館)、2023年「虚影蜃光 ー Shell of Phantom Light」(金沢21世紀美術館)等、数々の展覧会に出展している。

日本古来からの伝統的な工芸の漆芸に独特な螺鈿の世界を表現する池田。学生時代より各国を訪れ歴史的な建築物の人智を超えた装飾を見て、自らの手で感動を与える物を作りたいと思ったという。3D CADで図面をおこし、貝をレーザーカッターで0.08mmという薄さにまで切り出し、漆を塗り貼り付ける。塗膜の厚さは0.02㎜。それを4,5回繰り返して研ぎ出す。
技術と素材が重要である工芸において、技術をすべて機械化すると作品は無機質になると、2016年から発表している「電光」シリーズの数字は、手描きで書いたフォントをデジタル化したもの。
一見、近未来的に映る作品だが、現代の最先端の機械技術と人間の手による技にこだわり作品を生み出している。
2020年の初個展以来、当苑での3年ぶりの本展。近年、帯に池田の螺鈿を施した作品も発表するなど、ますます新たな挑戦を続ける作品を是非ご高覧ください。

IKEDA Terumasa was born in Chiba Prefecture in 1987. After completing his master's degree at Kanazawa College of Art in 2016, he studied at Kanazawa Utatsuyama Crafts Studio and graduated in 2019. He currently works in Kanazawa.

Ikeda expresses a unique world of mother-of-pearl in lacquer work, a traditional Japanese art from ancient times. Since his student days, he has traveled to various countries and seen designs on historic buildings that go beyond human comprehension, and he wanted to create something with his own hands that would move viewers. He designs using 3D CAD, cuts the shellfish to a thickness of 0.08mm with a laser cutter, and applies lacquer to the piece. The thickness of a lacquer coating being applied is 0.02mm, and he would repeat coating 4 or 5 times, and then sharpen it.

In crafts, where technique and materials play important roles, if all processes were mechanized, the work of art would become inorganic, the artist said. The numbers in the "Lightning" series, released since 2016, are therefore digitized from hand-drawn fonts.

At first glance, his artwork may seem futuristic, however, it is achievment of a combination of traditional human handcraft and cutting-edge technology.

This is the first exhibition in three years at Shibuya Kurodatoen, and the second solo exhibition since 2020. Please visit us and enjoy his works of art that continue to take on new challenges.
