魯山人先生の代表作と言われているのが椿と雲錦の大鉢である。雲は春の桜を錦は秋の紅葉を描いているが正面に紅葉をもってくると鉢の内側には桜が見るような趣向となっている。桜を朝靄に、紅葉を夕焼けに見立て朝桜夕楓と書いた作品名もある。太筆と小筆を自由自在に使い分け一気呵成に描いたのであろう。自然美を何よりも愛しそれをいかに自作に表すことが出来るかが魯山人先生の生涯のテーマであった。草や花や鳥を愛するように魯山人先生の作品も愛でていただきたいと思う。
The Large bowls of Camellias, and the Cloud and Brocade, Japanese traditional pattern called “Un-kin,” are considered to be the masterpieces of Rosanjin. The cloud depicts cherry blossoms in spring, and the brocade depicts red leaves in autumn. When the side of leaves is placed in front of you, you can see the cherry blossoms in side.
At the same time, there is an artwork named “朝桜夕楓”, in which he depicted the cherry blossoms as a morning mist and the autumn leaves as an evening glow, contrastive to “Un-kin.” It is likely that he freely used thick and small brushes to paint in a single breath. Rosanjin’s life long theme was how to express his love for the beauty of nature in his works. I hope you will love his works as much as the artist loved grass, flowers, and birds.
