「卍」から発想されたと言われる辰秋先生の捻りの意匠は、椅子などの大形の作品や飾箱、盆、そして掌で楽しめるような大きさの香合や茶器にも用いられて先生の代名詞となっている。捻りは四稜形がほとんどでこの茶器のような五稜形は珍しい。小刀と豆鉋を用いてキリッと稜線が立つように造形されている。凛々しく力強い造形である。内側と高台内は黒塗で、朱塗との対比も映えている。
“His twisting designs, which are said to have been inspired by the swastika, have become synonymous with him, and are used in large chairs, decorative boxes, trays, incense containers and tea utensils that are large enough to be enjoyed in the palm of one’s hand. Most of his twists are in the shape of four ridges, but it is rare to see a five-ridge shape like this tea caddy. He uses a knife and a small plane to make the ridges stand out sharply. The shape is dignified and powerful. The inside and the inside of the stand are black lacquered, which contrasts well with the red lacquer.
