「耀貝」とはメキシコ産の鮑貝のことで、命名は棟方志功先生によるものである。鈍く力強い光の中に海中の輝きを思わせる複雑な色彩は辰秋先生の螺鈿の大きな特色となっている。本作は十二弁に分けた器体に耀貝と白色の貝を交互に配し、堂々とした風格のある大棗である。共箱と共に即中斎の書付、蓋裏にも朱の在判。
